Bulgaria's abandoned children - growing up with a family
Over 3,000 babies and young children are growing
up in instituional care in Bulgaria. Large scale institutions rarely meets
a childs most basic needs and many children suffer developmental delays
and emotional damage as a result.

The BABA programme
The Baba Programme brings hope to abandoned children growing up in insititutional
care. In the absence of a mother or family, a surrogate Granny, or Baba
as they are called in Bulgaria, is carefully selected and trained to become
a primary carer for to chosen children.
